Marla Fein

marla-fein_0259When you first meet Marla Fein, you think wow, this loving beautiful woman is so happy and so easy going, and her life must be perfect! In so many ways Marla’s life is perfect, but she has had her struggles along the way just like all of us in one way or another. Marla has the attitude that reminds us of the old saying when life gives you lemons, make lemonade.

Marla lost her brother when he was fourteen years old. She also has had a condition called DCIS which is a stage 0 breast cancer contained in the milk duct. All is well but she has had to experience  multiple surgeries which can be a little disheartening, especially when it keeps her from her yoga mat.

Yoga has been a great part of keeping Marla’s head in a positive state of mind. She has learned so much about herself from the practice. Marla started coming to Om Sweet Om when we first opened. As a matter of fact, you will often see hear wearing our “vintage” Om Sweet Om t-shirts. She had been doing Bikram yoga prior to coming to Om Sweet Om, but once she came here she felt she was home. Marla feels that the yoga helps her to center herself, it’s a little escape when she takes the time out. Marla finds that it is so easy to forget to breathe and in yoga she remembers to breathe, to chill out and let life go with the flow. Marla is a very active mom of 2 children 14 and 10 1/2.

Marla’s positive attitude is contagious. Marla talks about getting annoyed when she can’t practice yoga, how what she learned is that she really needs it, and that it makes everything alright with the world. She has also learned about ego, and judging yourself.  Yoga has helped Marla to observe her feelings, and be ok with them.

Marla loves Om Sweet Om because it’s warm, cozy, inviting and accepting. “You can work as hard as you want to”. When Marla is at Om Sweet Om she feels good about herself, and these days, Marla feels you take it where you can get it. Lately Marla’s favorite class is the mother/daughter yoga on Tuesday nights. She finds it so peaceful. It’s a nice bonding time with her daughter, they go out to dinner afterwards. It’s time they can spend together that isn’t shopping! Marla loves that every time she takes classes it’s different. She likes how the teachers mix up the flow, she likes the surprise of it all. When she was doing Bikram she said the sequence got boring. Marla is not afraid to show up one day for a challenging class and another day for gentle or restorative, she knows that she needs the balance of it all. Marla’s way of being is an inspiration to us all and we are so fortunate to have Marla as part of our community.
