* Vinyasa: The Dance of Life Vinyasa: The Dance of Life

Time: 1:30 pm

with Tao Porchon-Lynch Saturday May 5th, 1:30-4:00 pm, Unity with breath, body, mind and spirit will be connected so that each posture is done as a fluid movement. Tao will show you her way of starting the posture, when to begin and end the breath. Alignment, stretching and linking pranayama will be emphasized. Varied sequences of asana and vinyasa drawn from the classic teachings of yoga master BKS Iyengar will be taught, along with inspiring life stories from her years of study with him. A deeply absorbing meditation inspiring compassion and inner peace will conclude the workshop.

Tai Chi Chuan is an art that enables one to rediscover their natural spirit, flow and rhythm through movement. This class will focus on the Yang StyleTai Chi Chuan 24 movement form. Together, we will explore basic concepts and principles of Tai Chi and Qigong and then apply these to the 24 movement form. Each session will also review the previous sections of the form and introduce a new section of the form.

Therapeutic Backbending Saturday - May 19 1:30-4:00p Backbend are invigorating, uplifting and opening. They help to stimulate proper functioning of digestion, preserve health in spinal disks and vertebral column, and open the body to diaphragmatic breathing. Backbends stretch the front body, allowing deeper breathing, and releases tension in the shoulders and spine. Learn to move with ease and effortlessness, and release into the joy of backbends! Backbends can help increase lung capacity, prevent arthritis, alleviate depression, build stamina and improve circulation, digestion and immune function. But they are demanding in the vulnerable part of our spine—the lumbar. To protect the back, approach them with precise alignment, and learn to engage key core muscles for safe movement and alignment. Backbends are believed to help us move from the past into the present, and to help open our heartmind and let go of fear. Shoulders & Hips - Hubs of Movement Sunday, May 20th 1:30-4:00 pm, Keeping our joints strong and supple makes our bodies more tolerant of the stresses of daily living. The shoulders and hips are the hubs of movement to move in yoga asana, and keeping these hubs free is critical to joint and bone health. Nerves in neck and shoulder connect to our brain as sensory nerves from the heart, so taking care of neck and shoulders improves circulatory function and general health. Hip flexors, extensors and rotators add mobility to walking, so freedom in the pelvis can decrease issues in the knees, feet and back. Maintaining strength and flexibility in your hips and shoulders improves everyday life, and lessens injury by keeping joints, ligaments and muscle mobile. Creating balance in the hubs of movement for the torso creates ease and strength in the body. Join Cora for fun ways to open shoulders and hips!
